If You Cannot Receive a Fax (MF8350Cdn/MF8050Cn)

    Issue


    You cannot receive faxes. Machine does not switch automatically between telephone and fax calls. You cannot receive faxes and an error report is printed.

    Cause and Solution


    If you cannot receive faxes, check the following.

    Is the telephone cable connected properly?
    Make sure the cable is connected properly. (See "Connecting a Telephone Line (MF8350Cdn/MF8050Cn).")

    Is the machine set to receive faxes automatically?
    Make sure that the <RX Mode> is set to <Auto>, <FaxTel>, or <Answer>. If you have set <Answer>, confirm that an answering machine is connected to the machine and that it is turned on with an outgoing message properly recorded. (See "Selecting the Receive Mode that Suits Your Needs.")

    Are documents stored in memory, leaving little or no memory available?
    If <Memory Lock Settings> in <Communications Settings> in <System Settings> of the setting menu is set to <ON>, follow the procedures below to output the documents in memory.
    Print, send, or delete any documents stored in memory. For instructions on how to check or delete jobs stored in memory, see "Checking and Deleting Documents in Memory."

    • Memory Lock Setting

    1. Press [Menu].

    2. Press [ ] or [ ] to select <System Settings>, then press [OK].

    3. Press [ ] or [ ] to select <Communications Settings>, then press [OK].

    4. Press [ ] or [ ] to select <Memory Lock Settings>, then press [OK].

    5. Press [ ] or [ ] to select <Off>, then press [OK].

    The received documents are printed.

    6. Press [ ] [Reset] to return to the standby mode.

    Has an error occured during reception?
    • Check the display for an error message.

    Is paper loaded in the machine?
    Make sure paper is loaded in the machine. (See "Loading Paper into the Paper Cassette.")
